Rockford Speedway Report,
By: Kevin Ramsell < Link

John Zellinga worked his way   past early leader Jim Thiel on  lap 6 to take home the win in  the FIRA/Rascal Outlaw 15-lap  feature event. Thiel and Lyle  Phillips (the FIRA heat winner) put on a great battle for  second.
At the checkers it was Thiel holding off Phillips for the position while Zellinga took home another win at Rockford.

FORMULA INDY RACING ASSOCIATION:

FIRA was started 1974 as The Midwest Mini Champ Racing Assoc. The intent was to race an affordable racecar with a scaled down Indy car style . The cars weight about 650 lb. and are powered by 600cc two cycle Snowmobile and 750cc four cycle Motorcycle Engines.  These cars offer Fast, Exciting racing on 1/4 and 1/2 mile oval tracks in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
The mechanical skills required along with Driver ability is equal to any type of oval Track racing. The low comparative cost and club atmosphere allows for a competitive and rewarding racing experience.
